Perform at Your Best
Sep 29, 2024Ever wonder why some people rapidly advance their careers and others don't?
One of my clients, a successful investment professional, was passed over for a promotion. To respect her privacy, I'll refer to my client as Tara. Tara felt stuck rising to her next level of leadership and felt frustrated watching her peers move forward with their careers.
Tara enrolled in my coaching program: BLISS Accelerator. Her breakthrough came when she took these three steps:
1) Looked at her results and took 100% responsibility.
2) Changed to a winning mindset.
3) Started thinking, feeling and acting like her future self at her desired outcome.
The reason this worked for Tara is because success starts inside of you. She realized that performing at her best is an inside-out journey. Previously, she had been blaming other people, conditions or circumstances outside of herself and comparing herself to others.
During the BLISS Accelerator coaching journey, I invited Tara to read The Common Denominator of Success, a speech delivered by insurance executive Albert E.N. Gray in the 1940's. Here, Gray points out that to succeed, one must form the habit of doing the things that unsuccessful people don't like to do.
Gray notes that successful people are influenced by the desire for pleasing results. Unsuccessful people are influenced by the desire for pleasing methods, and less concerned with results.
When Tara became a client, I encouraged her to focus on getting crystal clear about her goals and desired outcome. And, again, her breakthrough came when she was willing to do what her "unsuccessful" self had been unwilling to do:
1) Looked at her results and took 100% responsibility.
2) Changed to a winning mindset.
3) Started thinking, feeling and acting like her future self at her desired outcome.
Tara ignited herself from the inside: desire, focus and higher self-discpline, something that the earlier version of her had unconsciously been unwilling to do. She changed her mindset and habits. She created an elevated version of herself and approached her career from the perspective of her future self.
Albert E.N. Gray said, "The common denominator of success - the secret of success of every person who has ever been successful - lies in the fact that "THEY FORMED THE HABIT OF DOING THINGS THAT FAILURES DON'T LIKE TO DO."
