Keep Calm and Carry On

Jan 12, 2024

When life throws curveballs your way, are you easily overwhelmed and stressed? And ever wonder how you can stay in charge of your emotions?

We all know the familiar saying, "Keep calm and carry on."

But too often, to "keep calm" is challenging!

If you continue reading today, you'll understand why it's important to develop the habit of mindfulness so that you can "keep calm."

Mindfulness is the practice of being present and fully engaged in the moment. By focusing on the present, you can interrupt the tendency to react or over-react. Mindfulness makes you an active agent in selecting your thoughts and emotions.

Thus, you can consciously chose a better response or approach.

Psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl said, “Between the stimulus and response, there is a space. And in that space lies our freedom and power to choose our responses. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

And "that space" is a pause. It's calm. You can be mindful there.

Staying calm in stressful situations is a skill that takes practice. By becoming mindful, you can build resilience.

As James Allen wrote, "Calmness of mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom."

Make a commitment to yourself to be mindful and learn to stay in charge of your emotions. This discipline will pay you rich dividends.
