Falling in Love With Your Goals
Oct 13, 2024Do you ever feel like you want to avoid letting another year pass without achieving your goals?
This is an important question because you deserve to achieve your goals. To make this a reality, keep reading to discover how essential it is to be in love with your goals.
The truth is that as human beings we are always in an emotional or feeling state. Generally speaking, positive feelings inspire you and negative feelings demotivate you. And being in love is one of the best feeling states imaginable!
You might be asking, how does being in love apply to my goals?
Let’s think about romantic love. When you are in love with someone, you will move mountains for them. You will surmount all kinds of challenges to be with this person.
And that’s why the expression in love is essential for your goal achieving journey. Goals for which you will move mountains. Goals that will inspire you to do what it takes to achieve them. And the word inspiration comes from the Latin word inspiratio, which means "to breathe into." When you are inspired you have the force of life breathing fully in you! You will do what it takes.
Edwin Barnes was a young man in 1920 when he showed up at the offices of inventor Thomas Edision in New Jersey. According to Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich, Barnes had a burning desire to be the business associate of Thomas Edision. In other words, he was in love with his goal. He was willing to do what it took to achieve it:
- He had travelled to Edison's office on a freight train because he had no money and he didn't know Edison personally.
- He was willing to start anywhere and do anything, Edison asked of him - including menial work.
- Months went by and it seemed like nothing happened but he did not give up. He did not quit and find another job.
- Five years passed before the chance to be Edison's business partner presented itself.
- Barnes identified an opportunity (the Edison Dictating Machine) about which others were not enthusiastic. He knew he could sell it and got his chance from Edison. He sold it so successfully he becamse a business associate of Edison and a wealthy man in the process!
Edwin Barnes was so in love with his goal to be Thomas Edison's business partner that he did what it took to achieve his goals.
Napoleon Hill explained, "Barnes's desire was not a hope. It was not a wish. It was a keen, pulsating desire, which transcended everything else."
Inspiratio. The force of life was breathing fully in Barnes as he pursued his goal. In love.
Edwin Barnes did not achieve his goal in one year. But he stayed in love with it. He kept at it. As Napoleon Hill explained, "He left himself no possible way of retreat."
Year after year, he was successful because he was progressively moving in the direction of his goal and he stayed in love!
