Focus on What You Can Control
Apr 07, 2025This past week, I’ve noticed how easy it is to feel overwhelmed.
The headlines. The constant stream of updates. The uncertainty in the world. It can us feeling like we’re being swept into a current we can’t escape.
And to be very truthful: I’ve had to be extra intentional about not getting pulled into feeling overwhelmed.
What’s helped me most? Coming back to the present moment.
Staying focused on what I can control: doing my work. Listening to music that soothes me. Taking breaks to breathe. Seeing the beauty in nature and around me. Connecting with loved ones. Staying aware of what’s happening in the world, but not letting myself lose sight of what's in my control.
As Eckhart Tolle explains: "Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have."
I remind myself that presence is power. And when I take care of my thoughts, my focus, my energy… I show up better for everything and everyone around me, including the challenges we're facing.
So I invite you to pause for just a moment and ask yourself:
What’s one thing you can control today?
Maybe it’s how you start your morning.
Maybe it’s the way you speak to yourself.
Maybe it’s choosing to take a deep breath instead of reacting in frustration.
You don’t have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders.
The more you stay centered and in control of your thoughts, the more impactful you can be: at work, at home, and in your world.
